About the author
I'm a Cumbrian based amateur birder/photographer with a passion for wildlife and especially birds. I've travelled abroad extensively (Trinidad and Tobago, Egypt, Australia, Canada, The Gambia, Costa Rica, Sri Lanka, Kenya, India, Peru, Cyprus, Fuerteventura...) and to most corners of Britain and Europe (including Iceland, Hungary, the Scottish Islands etc.) - with my extremely tolerant family! I try to watch birds and take photos as ethically as I can. (For example, the Schedule 1 bird photos in my portfolio were all taken from inside my car or from public footpaths/roads or public hides and well away from any nests, keen as I am not to disturb the birds in any way.) All photos on this site are of free-flying wild birds (with the exception of the Peacock and the close-up Kestrel, the latter taken while the bird was being released at an authorized ringing station). My local patch used to be Thrapston Gravel Pits, then Rutland Water; now it's the the English shore of the Solway Estuary (where I took this photo).
