Captivating Catbird and supporting cast
The Grey Catbird mega was perhaps deserving of an equally mega journey - from the Solway to Land's End! I arrived, exhausted, sometime after lunch and to my great relief, the bird was "showing well" according to the first birder I encountered. A short walk took me to the long line of fellow twitchers (never thought I'd say that!), all with optics trained on a patch of brambles and gorse. Twenty minutes later, I was enjoying good views myself - of a bird that had only been seen once before in Britain: a mega mega, and species no. 401! Other good birds included Dusky Warbler, Yellow-browed Warbler (c.4), Firecrest, Chough, Great Egret, Spoonbill, Whimbrel...
