Another Lesser Scaup - and females too!

A trek up north again on 15th February, this time to Coatbridge near Glasgow (Drumpellier Country Park), brought me closer to yet another yank duck - another drake Lesser Scaup to be precise, and this time with 2 females... a gender tick for me! The birds in question were relatively easy to spot (no confusing Greater Scaup nearby) but spent most of their time against the far bank, well out of photo range. Circumnavigation of the lake facilitated closer views but the light was awful as I looked south into the sun, and the birds were still shy. Still, I got my best shots ever of this species and had the site largely to myself. I was also pleased to take advantage of the one window of decent weather before 2 named storms arrived bringing wet and windy conditions...
