Crake and Rail prove elusive
I hadn't seen Spotted Crake for a while and was keen to get photos of this species. On the map, it didn't seem far but I'd underestimated the poor roads and didn't get to Ayr until 10am - just as the bird was becoming more elusive. Still, patience paid off and it showed, albeit sporadically and almost always obstructed by vegetation. By the time it proved more showy, the midday sun made photography hard but I stuck at it and managed some decent shots - of the scarcity and Water Rail, as well as Sedge Warbler and Stonechat. A large colony of Sandwich Terns provided the backing track.
