Pec Sand on Peat Bog

North Cumbria has done well for this species of late, and it was no great surprise that another of these Yank scarcities turned up, this time at Wedholme Flow (21st July). It wasn't the easiest of local twitches, mind: I'd forgotten how long in takes to walk the good mile from the car-park to the south-westernmost corner and I also got the timing wrong (I arrived to find sunlight bouncing of the pool's surface into my camera lens and the bird silhouetted). A bit of circumnavigation got me into a better spot, though, and soon I was at point-blank range with the sun behind me. I then spend the next hour or so in birding heaven and came away with at least 50 'keepers', with these being the pick of the bunch:
