Peeps pose perfectly
It's been a while since both Curlew Sandpiper and Little Stint have been so showy on the local patch, and six of the former and two of the latter at Bowness were a joy to watch on the 3rd and 5th September. (I'll claim the second Little Stint; up until my visit of the second of these dates, only one had been reported.) Views were exceptional, as they often are at this site, and with well-practised field-craft and patience, I got myself into a perfect position to capture them on digital film as they approached me (rather than the other way round). It was simply a question now of catching the moment when they weren't face-down in the mud or facing the wrong way - I could afford to be picky here; I'd got plenty of nice images of these two species already. The stints were the main draw, as the rarer of the two species, and I happily snapped away soon after first light with barely a soul around.
