Peregrine, & Red-breasted Beauty amidst the Barnies
A drive around the local hotspots produced very little on 7th but I was interested to find a ringed Little Egret feeding in a field with about 4 others. The light was poor, but I got a decent record shot and might try to discover the origin when I have a moment. Yellow 4 on left leg; Red N on right. On the 8th, I found a nice couple of Bullfinches in bushes in Rockcliffe village, but the only geese I could find on the marsh were Barnacles (and Greylags). The following weekend, I tried the Scottish side of the Solway first and despite failing on the goose front, I did find a lovely Grey Wagtail pottering around in a muddy field, and a flock of about 20 Twite were also buzzing around the shoreline. Both these spots seem like decent places to look across the marshes, but the geese were too distant, and I chose to return to Rockcliffe and managed to relocate the rarity we were all looking for: Red-breasted Goose. Sadly, the bird was very distant, and even with my 2x converter, I struggled to get a decent image and had to settle for a record shot.
The 15th proved uneventful for the most part as I tried to find the reported Green-winged Teal. Consolation came in the form of a couple of Goosander and a cracking Peregrine charging around the old harbour in search of prey.
