Spotted Red nailed at last
This took at least four attempts! On the fist two occasions, I couldn't even find the bird. On the third (18th August) I had good views through the telescope but it had a habit of disappearing, much to my frustration, every time I got in position to take a shot. I returned the next day (19th) and used my local knowledge of Port Carlisle to get quite close to the bird and eventually captured its image on digital film - alongside its commoner cousins... Redshank and Greenshank (c.4). I also took a shot of an odd-looking Redshank - which I took to be a washed out juvenile (see below, bottom right-hand bird).
